Dr. Robert E. Willner was an American physician who gained notoriety for his controversial treatment and views on AIDS. He received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1965 and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. Willner began to promote the theory that HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, could not be transmitted through casual contact, including sex, shared needles, or blood transfusions. Instead, he argued that HIV was a harmless passenger virus that only became dangerous when combined with illicit drugs, medications, or vaccines.
Dr. Willner also developed a therapy for AIDS patients called "Ozone Therapy," which involves injecting ozone gas into a patient's bloodstream. He claimed that the therapy could cure AIDS and many other diseases, but there is no scientific evidence to support his claims. Willner became a controversial figure in the medical community, and many doctors and scientists criticized his therapies and theories. He died in 1995 from a heart attack.
